Recently, I went with some members of Fotokring Gamma Tielt to the Ghent Seaport for a new photographic outing. The port is a place where you discover something different each time: imposing structures, old industrial sites, quiet corners, busy activity, and unexpected details.
In such a location, you immediately feel how strongly photography revolves around looking. Sometimes at the grand: steel behemoths, impressive factory buildings, and striking ships. Sometimes at the small: weathered materials, rust, lines, colours, and textures that you only see when you really take the time.
During this outing, I mainly tried to capture those contrasts. From the rhythm of bridge structures to the reflections in the water. From the soft light on an anchor to the hard geometry of industrial installations. And of course, a touch of humanity—photographers absorbed in their work or workers high among the metal structures.
Below you will find a selection of ten photos that best summarise the atmosphere of this day. Together, they form a small visual journey through the Ghent port, each with its own story and character.
